꽃무릇(Lycoris radiata): 9월 20일 경, 가을을 알리는 꽃의 대명사 꽃무릇, 고창 선운사, 영광 불갑사, 함평 용천사에 아름다운 꽃무릇 군락을 볼 수 있다. 꽃무릇(Lycoris radiata)은 상사화(相思花)라고도 불립니다. 이 꽃은 붉은 꽃잎이 먼저 피어 나고, 꽃잎이 지고 나서, 잎이 올라옵니다. 그래서 꽃잎과 잎은 만나지를 못합니다. 서로 그리워만 하고 만나지 못하는 아픈 사랑에 비유하여 생긴 이름이 상사화입니다.
